Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has logged at least one receiving touchdown from seven different quarterbacks in the first four years of his NFL career.
Only Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins caught more in that time span, with eight quarterbacks.
McLaurin has played with 10 different starting quarterbacks in his short career: Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy, Alex Smith, Kyle Allen, Taylor Heinicke, Garrett Gilbert, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Wentz and Sam Howell.
As NFL.com notes, that hasn’t stopped McLaurin from logging three consecutive 1,000-plus-yard seasons. It’s something McLaurin noticed in the first couple years as he prepared for a new season with Howell or veteran backup Jacoby Brissett.
“Shoot, probably about year two or year three, you know what I mean?” McLaurin said Monday when asked about the situation, according to NFL.com.
“I kind of was like, it was a little bit of a turnover at the quarterback position, but at that point, I already had in my mind like I don’t use that as an excuse as to why I don’t do my job and I don’t use that as a crutch to be why I’m not making plays or, you know, there’s multiple quarterbacks. So I don’t want to use that as a hindrance as to what that is dictates my outcome and my performance. Obviously, we know that’s something that factors my position, but I’ve never used it as a crutch.”
Given McLaurin’s performance with a rotating cast of quarterbacks, it projects well for him if thre Commanders can ever find some consistency at the position.
