We’ve seen plenty of instances of fans disrupting play before running onto the playing field. However, I can’t say I’ve seen a squirrel disrupt play by running onto the field.

Well, that was true until Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts. With the Packers about to have a crucial third down, officials stopped play as a squirrel made its way onto the field. Thankfully for the field staff, the squirrel made its way off the playing field on its own and without any coaxing.

That squirrel is quick. And while it was a funny occurrence, the commentary from Jim Nantz and Phil Simms might have made the entire clip. First off, Nantz casually took a shot at the Packers’ offense. Simms followed that up by giving an evaluation of the squirrel’s running motion. The words from Simms might have been the most insightful he’s ever given while working an NFL broadcast.

That squirrel left quite an impression Sunday. It might have to make its way back to Lambeau Field so he or she could show off their speed once again.
