The Miami Dolphins had a few bright spots this past season, including the impressive performance from rookie receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Waddle was the number six pick in last year’s NFL draft, just one behind fellow receiver Ja’Marr Chase. The Alabama star brought in 104 receptions for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

While Chase is the player who received most of the praise from his elite season, Waddle was excellent for the Dolphins as well and has garnered some high praise from former Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl champion receiver Wes Welker.

Welker recently joined the Dolphins coaching staff as a wide receivers coach under new head coach Mike McDaniel and has already made a bold comparison to Waddle’s play style.

“I think it’s acceleration,” Welker said on Waddle’s best attribute as a receiver. “We’ve got the ball into his hands, it’s kind of Tyreek Hill-ish, how he’s just able to get that ball and really burst out of it. That’s what came to mind whenever I was kind of watching him coming to Alabama and seeing him on film here.”

Welker is well known as one of the best route runners during his time in the NFL. If he can pass on his knowledge to a player with the speed and talent of Waddle, the league will need to watch out for going forward.
