Tom Brady loves Donald Trump.
That was apparent in 2015 when he displayed a “Make America Great” hat in his locker, it was apparent in October when he talked about his friendship with Trump, and it’s been apparent over the entire election and post-election seasons as Trump has repeatedly bragged about Brady’s support and the quarterback hasn’t denied anything.
All of which begs the question: Why won’t Brady just admit he proudly voted for Trump?
Of course, no one is required to share his political views with the world, but Brady has consistently associated himself with Trump, only to stop short of actually endorsing him. It’s puzzling more than anything. Why involve yourself in a campaign if you’re afraid to talk about it publicly? If Brady is afraid of backlash in Boston, why does he keep letting Trump shout him out? And if he’s not afraid of public opinion, why not just admit he supported Trump? It’s just kind of bizarre.
The latest episode came after Trump bragged Thursday night that Brady had called him before his inauguration.

Of course, given how enthusiastically Trump has touted Brady’s support at every stage of the campaign, Brady had to know that his alleged call to the president-elect would make the news. And yet, when he was asked about it Friday…

If Brady wants to remain apolitical, that’s fine. He’s a football player with no obligation to talk politics. But then why does he keep involving himself in the political process? Does he think by refusing to talk about Trump he’s confusing people about whom he voted for and preventing liberal Bostonians from turning against him? Buddy, you’re not fooling anyone.
