Not many players in the history of the NFL have enjoyed a career as successful as former wide receiver Wes Welker. Welker was named twice to the All-Pro First-Team, to go along with five selections to the Pro Bowl. Welker also played in three Super Bowls, although he was never able to secure the Lombardi.
However, it would appear that Welker is going to have another crack at winning football’s highest prize. Welker served as the Miami Dolphins receiver’s coach from 2022 to 2024 before being fired this past January, but he’s already made his return to the league.
“The #Commanders are hiring Wes Welker to join Dan Quinn’s coaching staff, per (Mike Reiss). Welker was the Dolphins’ WRs coach from 2022–2024 and previously held the same role in San Francisco from 2019–2021, where he worked with Deebo Samuel (who is now in Washington),” reported league insider Ari Meirov.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Not for any good reason, I would like to know more about his departure from Miami,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Great hire! Welker’s experience will boost the team’s performance,” one fan added.
“Wes Welker is a Commander…. Could’ve used him about 15yrs ago also,” one Commanders fan wrote.
