The Jets' new uniforms.

Ever since Nike took over as the NFL‘s official apparel partner, they have released a number of new and interesting uniform combinations, including the “color rush” uniforms that were worn by teams on Thursday Night Football. The latest new uniform combination that’s been revealed is an alternate look for the New York Jets.

While some teams kept things traditional and changed little to nothing about their uniforms, other franchises have been open to new concepts. The Jets are going that route for their new “Stealth Black” alternate uniforms. They announced Friday they will play three games in 2022 decked out in this black helmet-jersey combo, which features hints of chrome green and white throughout. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted photos of linebacker C.J. Mosley and defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers in the new look:

The Jets’ newest uniforms drew some reactions from NFL fans on Twitter, with some fans liking it, and others — not so much.

The Jets will wear these “Stealth Black” alternate jerseys for three home games, starting in Week 8 against the New England Patriots. They’ll also wear them in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears, and in Week 16 against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football.

Many other teams across the league have released their own uniform changes after the NFL threw out its one-helmet-per-team policy last year, allowing teams to have a second helmet option.

Jets fans thought the team was going to go in the throwback direction, similar to their MetLife Stadium co-tenant the New York Giants. Whatever the case, they will need to improve their performance on the field this season to back up their sleek new uniforms. The Jets went 4-13 last season, which was the first with the franchise for both head coach Robert Saleh and quarterback Zach Wilson.

There is some growing optimism for Jets’ fans, however, especially after a solid draft. That draft included former Ohio State stud wideout Garrett Wilson, who was taken 10th overall. Wilson is expected to play a big role on offense as a rookie. We’ll see how he and the other Jets’ players do in these new uniforms.
