Cam Newton Cam Newton

Former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton is still hunting for a new football team.

Newton started the offseason by declaring there weren’t 32 quarterbacks better than him, which translated into him looking for a starting position in the league.

When that failed to materialize, Newton listed off numerous quarterbacks and teams for which he was willing to accept a back-up role. So far, Newton remains unsigned, and the season grows closer every day.

While speaking to ESPN reporter Josina Anderson, Newton offered a theory as to why he remains unemployed: The length of his hair.

“It’s been hinted,” Newton said before making clear that he doesn’t intend to change his style for any future employer.

“And I’m not changing. People have hinted to where they say like, ‘Cam, we want you to go back to the 2015 clean-cut Cam.’ But, that was a different me. The thing that is always mentioned is, ‘Cam, you’re scaring people with how you look.'”

Whether Newton is scaring teams with his hair or his potential play remains unknown. But it’s possible that Newton’s look is contributing to his lack of employment opportunities.

Newton played with the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots during his first 10 years in the league. He last played with the Panthers in 2021.

The NFL world was quick to react to the news:
