The Minnesota Vikings appear set at the quarterback position with veteran Kirk Cousins expected to be the team’s starter for the sixth straight season. However, they appear to be actively shopping for depth at the position, which led to them working out XFL standout Jordan Ta’amu.

Ta’amu is no stranger to trying to get on NFL rosters. He has had multiple brief stints after going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent time with the Texans in 2019, the Chiefs and Lions in 2020 and the Chiefs, Lions, Commanders and Panthers in 2021.

He didn’t have any suitors in the 2022-23 season, which led to him opting to play in the XFL instead. It was a great decision for him, showing out in a big way for the D.C. Defenders. He led the D.C. Defenders to a 9-1 regular season record, throwing for 1,894 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions, which earned him the honor of being named the XFL’s offensive player of the year.

His big year in the XFL has seemingly led to renewed interest from NFL teams. The Score’s Jordan Schulz reported on Thursday that Ta’amu worked out for the Vikings on Thursday.

One potential factor for the Vikings working out the XFL standout is a recent NFL rule change that certainly helps backups quarterbacks get a roster spot. NFL owners recently approved a proposal that allows teams to field three quarterbacks on their active roster without the third quarterback taking up a roster spot.

If Ta’amu ultimately does sign with Minnesota, he will likely compete for that third quarterback position behind Kirk Cousins and Nick Mullins.
