You probably missed it because the NHL enjoys announcing positive news when no one is paying attention, but the All-Star Game captains were announced Tuesday. Unlike last year, there are no surprises or anything fun. The honors went to Sidney Crosby (Metropolitan), Carey Price (Atlantic), P.K. Subban (Central) and Connor McDavid (Pacific).

NHL Hockey Operations will pick the 40 players — 10 per team — because nothing says “fun fan event” like a bunch of old men deciding 90 percent of the team. One member of this department is NHL executive vice president and director of hockey operations Colin Campbell, who famously told John Scott last year that he would embarrass his children if he accepted a spot at the All-Star Game.

The 2016 game was the highest-rated in years, Scott won the MVP, a million bucks and is now having a movie made about his life.

The NHL tightened its voting rules for this year, and now there’s no Scott-like story for the game in Los Angeles. Feeling pressure to recapture the magic of the 2016 game, Campbell is taking it upon himself to make sure he doesn’t make the same mistake. The Comeback has acquired internal emails that show Campbell has learned from his mistakes and wants to correct them for the 2017 game.

But maybe he’s overcompensating a bit.

Here are the rosters Campbell is pushing for each team with some notes from him on each.

METRO

F: Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins (Captain)
F: Tom Wilson, Washington Capitals
F: Luke Gazdic, New Jersey Devils

D: Radko Gudas, Philadelphia Flyers
D: Scott Mayfield, New York Islanders
D: Brooks Orpik, Washington Capitals
G: Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes
G: Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus Blue Jackets

Campbell’s Notes:Not happy about Simmonds’ 17 goals but he leads the division in PIMs so we gotta send him … I’m thinking Sestito-Gazdic-Mayfield can do some damage out there, great story … Cam is the John Scott of goaltenders so there’s a real chance to capture some magic if he makes one or two saves … I know Gregory isn’t in the league anymore but I think he’s an All-Star. A great kid. Please don’t let anyone see this because I don’t want to go through that again lol

ATLANTIC

F: Matt Martin, Toronto Maple Leafs

D: Roman Polak, Toronto Maple Leafs
D: Mark Borowiecki, Ottawa Senators
G: Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens (Captain)
G: Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay Lightning

Campbell’s Notes:O’Reilly overcame driving his car into donut shop. Fans will be drawn to his story of heroism … Neil, everyone loves that guy … McQuaid has one point in 35 games, we need that at the game … Name one bad thing Andrew Shaw has ever done? … Plus we get Shawn Thornton, talk about a ratings bonanza when he sucker punches Orpik! Please don’t let anyone see these emails you guys.

D: Matt Dumba, Minnesota Wild
G: Devan Dubnyk, Minnesota Wild
G: Semyon Varlamov, Colorado Avalanche

Campbell’s Notes:Fans love redemption stories so they’ll love Kane and Varly doing well … Can we get PK off the team? Don’t like his attitude. … Can my kid play on this team too? Like to see him play as much as possible. … Hey now that I think about it please don’t let people know what I said about Kane and Varly thx Colie.”

Campbell’s Notes:Can you believe how good this team is? Can we replace McDavid with Lucic? … Can we get Haley to spell his first name like a normal person? Damn millennials. … If Quick doesn’t fight someone we should fine him … If people think a John Scott movie is a good idea, imagine if we do one about Boll, Engelland and White. I’d lke my son to write the script lol please seriously don’t share this with anyone.
