The Washington Capitals paid tribute to the nation of Sweden on Monday night the only way they knew how; by having people build some IKEA furniture.
If you have ever gone to IKEA and taken some furniture home to assemble, you know the joy and frustration that come of it. You can get something that looks good but is made very cheaply and assembled with little more than some nuts, screws, and one hex wrench. You know what I’m talking about with that IKEA wrench that is thrown in every piece of furniture you have to build from the store. It can be a necessary evil. Yet, IKEA furniture to many is the best example of what Americans think of when they think of Sweden, along with ice hockey. The nation that gave us Peter Forsberg has also given many their furniture during their college or post-college years.
So is there a more perfect way for the Caps to recognize Sweden than by having a few people pick up a hex wrench and race against the time it takes to play a hockey game to build a dresser or two?

The Viking hats are a nice touch too. I cannot explain the use of cheerleaders though.
By the way, here is a life hack to get around having to use that IKEA wrench the next time you have some furniture to build. You’re welcome.
