United States President Donald Trump has never shied away from posting strange, rambling rants on social media, but his latest outburst may rank among his most bizarre yet.
On Monday, Trump turned to Truth Social — the platform he created after being banned from Twitter and Facebook — to vent his frustration over a bridge Canada is planning to build connecting Ontario and Michigan.
The lengthy post ran well over 200 words and jumped between several different topics, but one particularly strange line managed to stand out.
About halfway through his tirade, Trump made a completely nonsensical and entirely baseless claim that China will somehow “terminate” ice hockey in Canada and “eliminate” the Stanley Cup as part of a trade agreement.
Not only did Trump claim it could happen, he claims that it would be the “first thing” Chinadid.
“The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup,” Trump wrote.
Trump offered no explanation or evidence for the claim. Instead, he simply moved on, continuing his complaints about the bridge project and Canada’s dairy tariffs.
Needless to say, this led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“This reads like a trade policy written by someone whose entire understanding of Canada comes from beer commercials and hockey highlights,” one person wrote in a post on X.
“I mean it’s scary that the President of the United States doesn’t know the NHL (an AMERICAN business) owns the Stanley Cup and the NHL wouldn’t allow any of its franchises to be touched,” someone else wrote.
“There should be an age limit to be president; Trump isn’t thinking straight,” another person wrote.
“He is not well,” someone else added.
“This is yet another embarrassing ‘take the car keys’ from gramps moment and maybe the worst one. Trade deals don’t give one country the power to ban another country’s sports!!” another fan said.
This is certainly not the first bizarre, ramlbing post from the president, and it’s unlikely to be the last.
