On the heels of news the Carolina Hurricanes awarding a WWE style belt post-game to the player of the game, much to the confusion of its own players, the Florida Panthers have a unveiled new, bizarre MVP award – a Kevin Spacey space sweater.
When Barkov asked about #SpaceyInSpace sweatshirt he said 'honestly, I have no idea what it means.' #FlaPanthers pic.twitter.com/H52RPEkR60

What does it mean? Where does it come from? What’s it significance?
When George Richards (who snapped the pic) of the Miami Herald tried to get to the bottom of the mystery, Florida Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson told him he’d never figure out why Spacey in space was the MVP trophy.
Very secretive. When I told Erik Gudbranson I would figure it out, he said "no you won't." So it's #SpaceyInSpace https://t.co/Lk0X8CR5VY

Apparently Spacey himself knows why the Panthers wear it, but didn’t admit why, wishing the Panthers the best of luck.
Only I really know what #SpaceyInSpace means. Hope it continues to bring good luck! -K
Whatever the sweater means, the Panthers are clearly riding its good waves. They’ve reeled off seven straight victories, which has catapulted them to first place in the Atlantic Division. The team also recorded a sellout last night against Montreal, which is impressive for a franchise consistently in the bottom of the league in attendance.

No matter the true meaning of the Spacey shirt, it’s clearly provided the Panthers with some joy and who can complain about that. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll learn the true magical origins of the sweater, as for now here’s how I’m personally interpreting it.
If you’re interested in buying the sweater yourself, you can find it here.
