Tuesday night saw a frightening incident in the American Hockey League, with Kale Kessy of the Hershey Bears (the Washington Capitals’ AHL affiliate) stretchered off after losing consciousness following a fight with Derek Sheppard during the second period of a game against the Charlotte Checkers. Kessy was laying on the ice for several minutes before being stretchered off. Here are some photos and videos of what happened:

VERY scary situation here in Hershey. Bears player just took most vicious hockey punch I’ve ever seen during a fight and was knocked out on his feet. pic.twitter.com/Y1QZXgz0T1

Lots of concern for Kale Kessy right now. Can’t say enough for how Bob Goodman reacted immediately. Just a stunned silence here. pic.twitter.com/gNG9CKAxX6

The team updated that Kessy was “alert, and in stable condition, and being transported to a local medical facility.”

That’s certainly a scary situation. Here’s hoping that Kessy is okay.
