Jimmy Vesey was one of the most sought after free agents in hockey this summer. After the 23-year-old skater’s rights were traded to the Buffalo Sabres, he made it clear that his intentions were to pursue free agency. This resulted in just about every NHL team making their pitch to Vesey in the hopes the talented young forward would sign and bring an immediate upgrade.

Vesey ultimately chose the New York Rangers and it sounds like he may have been partially swayed by actor Liam Neeson.

The pitch worked and now Vesey has been Taken in by the Rangers (sorry – we couldn’t help it).

Neeson is no stranger to the New York Rangers as he has been frequently seen at Madison Square Garden taking in the Rangers. It’s not rare to see celebrities voice their opinions about the teams they follow (the cast of Entourage tried to get Vesey to join the Rangers and the New York Islanders), but it is a bit more unique to see a team embrace their star power in an official pitch to a free agent.
