Remember that kid who asked Wendy’s how many retweets he needed to get free chicken nuggets? He has started a trend.

New Jesrey Devils fan Nick Donnelly, perhaps inspired by the record-setting Wendy’s retweet campaign, reached out to his favorite NHL franchise with a similar question. Just how many retweets would he need to get free season tickets?

The Devils, fortunate to have someone handling their social media accounts savvy enough to know when to capitalize on an opportunity, got right to work and crafting a mathematic formula to calculate just how many retweets would be necessary.

Hitting just under 9,500 retweets isn’t that far of a reach, and hockey fans are bound to come together for a worthy cause. Devils supporters went to work, retweeting Nick’s question at will. Soon enough, Nick came incredibly close to the Devils’ target goal, and he quickly surpassed the number. As of this posting, the retweet count was over 11,000.

That season-ticket package will be valued at an estimated $1,238, per SB Nation. That hardly puts a dent in the Devils’ budget, even though the team just struggled through the previous season (before landing the top pick in the NHL Draft).

Now that we know the Devils will act on a retweet request, this Devils fan wants to give it a try too.
