Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban was stretchered off the ice during the team’s game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night, after suffering a neck injury on a freak collision with teammate Alexei Emelin.

Subban was taken to a local hospital, but the good news is he is alert, and has normal movement in his arms and legs:

Let’s hope the star defenseman will be okay and get back on the ice soon. The Sabres sent along such sentiments in a classy tweet to the Canadiens:

UPDATE: Subban was released from the hospital.
