The Detroit Red Wings are very bad. They are going to miss the playoffs for the first time in 25 years, and currently hold last place in the Atlantic Division.

Part of the reason for Detroit’s poor performance this season is players doing things like this.

Yes, that is Red Wings defenseman Danny Dekeyser trying to clear the puck and whiffing on the attempt. But he did clip enough of the puck to knock it into his own net. Not ideal!

The Red Wings would go on to lose, 5-3, to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The good news for Dekeyser is that he scored for his own team, too, so he had two goals on the night. He also had a penalty that led to a power play goal for the Lightning.

That has to be a first. It could be a highlight in what’s been a disappointing season in Hockeytown.

The real highlight from a Detroit standpoint is that Henrik Zetterberg notched his 900th career point on Dekeyser’s goal (the one he scored for the Red Wings).
