John Scott is back. The Montreal Canadiens announced today they have recalled the forward in advance of Tuesday’s matchup against the Florida Panthers.

The 33-year-old has had one of the most tumultuous seasons in NHL history after a fan vote campaign landed the enforcer in the All-Star game. The league responded by attempting to sabotage the vote, while Scott – whose wife was very pregnant at the time- was traded to the Canadiens and sent to St. John’s of the AHL just weeks before the game. Gary Bettman and co. attempted to persuade him from attending the event according to Scott, but their attempts proved futile. Scott not only attended, but captained his team and was the king of NHL All-Star weekend, scoring twice and earning the unlikely All-Star game MVP. His underdog story was so inspirational and unlikely, a movie based on his story is in the works.

Scott isn’t likely to make much of an impact for the Canadiens, as he’s only registered one assist in 11 games in the NHL this season, along with two goals and four points in 27 games with St. John’s. He’s still not a great hockey player, but it’s hard not to cheer him on given all he’s been through. Montreal is making a kind gesture with the call-up, as his NHL comeback is a nice bookend on a very bizarre season. At the very least it makes for a fitting final scene in his movie.
