Here’s your daily reminder that Sidney Crosby is a gift sent from the hockey gods.

On Tuesday, the NHL’s leading scorer outdid himself against the hapless Buffalo Sabres.

Carrying the puck through the neutral zone, Crosby split a pair of defenders. Two more Sabres tried to cut him off, but Sid the Kid split between them as well. All alone and in front of the Buffalo net with one hand on his stick, Crosby managed to flip the puck over Robin Lehner. It’s an incredible display of pure talent.

The goal was Crosby’s 41st of the season, placing him firmly ahead of Brad Marchand (37) for the most in the league. Amazingly, at 29, Crosby hasn’t slowed down. In fact, his goal tally is already the second-highest of his 12-year career. For a player who battled injuries, the fact he’s continuing his ridiculous point production is mighty impressive.

It wouldn’t be an NHL season without Crosby making some poor goaltender look silly. In this case, Lehner had little chance. Crosby blew by the entire Sabres defense and needed just one hand to roof it top shelf. Rarely can an opposing defense keep him down, especially when he’s got a full head of steam like this.

Even fans of the Sabres have to applaud one of the game’s true greats.
