Notorious hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg appears to have found his next business venture. And in a somewhat surprising turn of events, it’s in the National Hockey League.
On Monday, Snoop Dogg announced on his Instagram account that he intends to join in on businessman Neko Sparks’ bid to purchase the Ottawa Senators NHL franchise.
“Amazing what [Neko Sparks] is trying to do in Ottawa,” Snoop Dogg wrote on Instagram to his 80 million followers. “I’m looking forward to being apart of that ownership team. I WANNA BRING HOCKEY BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY.”

If his bid is accepted, Sparks would become the first Black team owner in the history of the National Hockey League. According to The Athletic, the ownership group he is putting together includes Snoop Dogg as well as more than a dozen other investors – many of whom are also Black.
As ESPN points out, is not Snoop Dogg’s first move into the sports world. Back in 2005, Snoop Dogg started the Snoop Football League which worked to “provide youth, regardless of race, color, creed, or economic background the chance to learn the values of character, integrity, discipline, and teamwork through football and cheer.”
It will certainly be interesting to see if the ownership bid is accepted.
