Get ready to read one of the more bizarre stories to emerge from the NHL.

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand apparently received a warning from the NHL that he needs to stop licking people during games. The warning comes after Marchand appeared to lick Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov in the first game of the two teams’ opening round playoff series.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the NHL reached out to the Bruins after the incident.

After Game 1 of the Toronto/Boston series, the Bruins got a, “We’d prefer if you could tell Brad Marchand to stop licking people” phone call from the NHL.

That had to be one weird phone call. Then again, it’s pretty weird the NHL had to even address this from Marchand in the first place. Marchand may be an instigator, but there’s other ways to accomplish that goal.

As weird as his lick/kiss was in Game 1, it wasn’t even the first time Marchand has done this to Komarov. The two had a similar encounter back near the end of 2017.

Following last year’s incident, Komarov joked that he kind of enjoyed it.

We’re betting Komarov may be getting tired of Marchand’s advances. By the sound of it, the NHL is tired of it too. Though there isn’t a section in the official rules on kissing or licking, it looks like the NHL is going to try and crack down on these kinds of extracurricular activities.

  1. If the idiot referees would call half the penalties in the book, ridiculous stories like this wouldn’t exist. There is a penalty for this that exists, 2 mins ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ or 10 min ‘misconduct’
