Loui Eriksson was one of the prized possessions of this past NHL offseason and when he decided to join the Vancouver Canucks, many believed that it could be a start of great things in Western Canada. His most recent play may have more people cringing than celebrating.

When a penalty is delayed in hockey, the other team has to touch the puck for the penalty to take effect and subsequently there is a stop during play. When it is possible, the goalie will head to his bench and the victims of the penalty will get to put another skater out onto the ice. The general rule of thumb is to stay far, far away from your own net. Scoring on your own goal in hockey will draw the ire of all of your fans.

Canucks’ fans must have been screaming their heads off during this sequence.

Eriksson went to throw the puck back to one of his defenseman and unfortunately for him there was no one back there.

It was almost like the play was moving in slow motion. The icing on top of the play is the player going into the goal. If I am commissioner Gary Bettman, they should consider allowing an additional goal if a player goes into the net as well.

It would add definite insult to injury.
