United States President Donald Trump made it pretty clear that he does not care about women’s sports or value the United States women’s hockey team the same way that he did the men’s.
During the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, the United States won Olympic gold in both men’s and women’s hockey, with both teams clinching 2-1 victories over Canada with golden goals in overtime.
While the wins were equally thrilling, Trump made it pretty clear that he valued one of them over the other.
As the men’s team was celebrating the gold medal victory in the locker room after the game, Trump spoke to the team on the phone to offer his congratulations and invite the team to attend the State of the Union address on Tuesday night.
“We’re giving the State of the Union speech on Tuesday night. I can send a military plane or something. If you would like to… It’s the coolest night, it’s the biggest speech,” Trump said after the game.
Seemingly as an afterthought, however, Trump told the team that he would “have” to invite the women’s team, as well, drawing laughs from FBI Director Kash Patel and the team.
“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that?” Trump told the team.
“I do believe I probably would be impeached,” he joked.
Obviously, this is a rather disgusting way for Trump to treat Team USA after they won an Olympic gold medal.
It’s not clear whether or not Trump actually did invite the women’s team to the State of the Union address. If he did, it’s not clear whether or not the invitation was accepted.
