There have been some spectacular moments during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The USA women’s gymnastics team comes to mind, along with the easy going nature of Usain Bolt.

But there have also been some spectacularly bad moments, and Dutch gymnast Epke Zonderland had one of those on Tuesday. Zonderland was on the high bar, and was coming out of a double flip when he slipped, and faceplanted into the mat.

Zonderland was able to finish his routine. The fall is very unfortunate for the gymnast, who was the gold medalist in the same event during the 2012 London Games.

He spoke about the fall afterward, via For The Win:

“I timed it a little bit wrong. I almost got it and I thought I had it, that’s why I tried to stick on the bar but I slipped away and I fell on my tummy.”

While he didn’t come away successful, he does have a gold medal worthy nickname, “The Flying Dutchman.”
