Heading into the 2016 Olympics, Katie Ledecky was expected to be one of the U.S.’s top performers. She backed up the hype Sunday in Rio.
While swimming in the finals of the 400-meter freestyle, Ledecky destroyed her own world record and won her first gold medal of the 2016 Games.

Prior to Sunday’s final, Ledecky had already set the world record in this event and is only the second woman in history to swim this event in under four minutes. As the video shows, Ledecky was far ahead of her competition and broke her previous record by a ridiculous margin.
Here are some tweets also displaying how dominant Ledecky’s performance was:
Katie Ledecky's 4.77-second win is over a second more than the margin of victory in Women's 400m Free at the previous 6 Olympics COMBINED.

The Ledecky-gap is super human. Shocking to the eye. pic.twitter.com/3n8SnnUpzU
