United States gymnastics legend Simone Biles has not competed since pulling out of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo to focus on her mental health. But it sounds like the superstar is making her much-anticipated return.

According to the Associated Press, Simone Biles is set to return to competition in early August after over two years away from gymnastics.

“BREAKING: Simone Biles is back,” the associated press said in a tweet on Wednesday morning. “The gymnastics superstar plans to return to competition at the U.S. Classic outside Chicago in early August, her first event since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. That event is roughly a year before the Paris Games.”

“Biles has taken most of the last two years off since Tokyo, where she made headlines by removing herself from several events to focus on her mental health,” the Associated Press added in a follow-up tweet.

Biles’ return to gymnastics comes about a year before the 2024 Olympic games in Paris, where it’s widely expected that Biles will attempt to compete while taking a much more subdued approach to the whole process.

It’s a pretty massive announcement, and it generated quite a lot of reactions on social media.

It will certainly be good to see the legendary gymnast competing again after such a long time away from the sport.
