American basketball star Brittney Griner will be home for Christmas, and her first move on the basketball court was a dunk.
“There’s no timeline on her return at this point. She’s reintegrating into a world that has changed for her now,” Griner’s agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas told ESPN. “From a pure security standpoint she’s not going to be able to move in the world the way she did. It’s not a fate that she asked for, but I think she’s going to try to utilize her fame for good.”
We now have an idea of what Griner’s future will entail once she readjusts to American society.
Colas told ESPN that Griner “will work to raise attention for other Americans who are considered to be wrongfully detained in other countries, particularly Paul Whelan, the former U.S. marine who has been in a Russian prison for four years on espionage charges.”
Whelan’s family heralded the news of Griner’s release from Russian custody, while the former Marine blasted President Joe Biden for letting him rot.
Griner was originally set to serve nine years in a maximum-security penal colony for women 200 miles west of Moscow before President Joe Biden made the controversial decision to free her in a prisoner swap with Russia.
