Many people were surprised when Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy came out and publicly criticized United States President Donald Trump. Portnoy was critical about how Trump handled an incident where a magazine editor was added to a top-secret group chat where top government officials planned an anti-terror military strike in the Middle East.
Now, there’s some added context to Portnoy’s criticism, as he seems to be distancing himself from the President. In an appearance on left-leaning CNN, Portnoy even said that he’d be willing to vote Democrat if he feels like he has to after voting for Trump in 2016 and 2020.
“Yea, absolutely. One thing about me, which drives me crazy, I voted for Trump, I support him. I was never like some crazy MAGA guy,” Portnoy said, according to Awful Announcing. “I look at each candidate and I choose who I like. I think the left, and a lot of even what they did with, I want to say hiding Biden’s mental state, not having a primary, really drove me to the right.
“So, I am not somebody who would just strictly vote based on Republican or Democrat. I vote on the people running, how I think they speak to me, the issues that are important to me. But yes, I will vote how I feel is the best interest of what I believe in.”
People reacted to Portnoy’s words on social media.
“Imagine putting your own portfolio above a healthy American economy and market for the long term, for everyone. The stock market isn’t indicative of American economic health,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Dave’s own statements and actions over the years shows his true character. Never have ever bothered to truly listen or follow any of his advise; he can be entertaining at times but beyond that I’ll rely on people who actually study economics, the stock market, etc as a profession rather than a hobby,” one person added.
“Dave is a great bottom signal. He ended this interview and the markets literally pump the hardest they have ever pumped before. He probably sold the bottom also,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Trump fires back at Portnoy.
