Although it has been over a year since WNBA star Brittney Griner came home after being arrested in Russia and sent to prison, Donald Trump has decided to bring up the topic again.

In a recent interview on Logan Paul’s podcast, Trump says he thinks Griner should still be in a Russian prison and thinks it was a poor deal to trade her for an arms dealer.

Trump said (Viktor) Bout was a “great arms dealer” who was traded for “the basketball player who wouldn’t stand up for the national anthem. She thought that was a good time to tie her sneakers. And that was not exactly the greatest trade. But he gave 6 billion dollars on top of it. Six billion, billion with a B, and they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Trump, who will be facing a prison term next month for using campaign funds to pay off Stormy Daniels, has always had an admiration and one could say friendship with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

When he ran for president in 2016, Trump asked Russia to get the dirt on presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. After an investigation was done, it was found that Russia did indeed interfere with the elections in 2016, so it shouldn’t be a shocker to anyone that he would take a hard stance against Griner when he has always seen Russia as an ally rather than a foe.
