Kobe Bryant is of course remembered as one of the greatest basketball players to ever live and a true icon in the eyes of countless sports fans. And soon, Bryant will be honored with many other American heroes in a proposed “National Garden of American Heroes”, according to Donald Trump.
During a recent ceremony of Black History Month at the White House, President Trump announced his intention to have numerous African American athletes over the years, including Bryant, Muhammad Ali, and Jackie Robinson among others be honored in his proposed National Garden of Heroes.
Along with these athletes who have proven to be exceptional in their respective sports, other African American heroes who have forever changed American culture including Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. Harriet Tubman, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Coretta Scott King, and Frederick Douglass would also be honored with statues in his proposed National Garden, according to Fox News.
Trump originally proposed his plan for the National Garden of American Heroes in 2020 during his first presidential tenure. And while it has yet to come to fruition, this most recent mention sure makes it sound like the proposed National Garden could shortly be in the works.
Further adding to that point, Trump amended his prior executive order last month that originally outlined developments for the National Garden of American Heroes to strike the goal of completing the site prior to July 4, 2026, to instead urge for it to be finished “as expeditiously as possible”.
Only time will tell if or when this proposed National memorial will be finished. But for sports fans, it sure is great that some of the more iconic sports figures will now have another place to be remembered.
