Donald Trump officially took the oath of office as President of the United States on Monday and immediately set plans in motion to eliminate protections for transgender athletes.

As reported by the Associated Press, Trump is preparing to sign executive orders targeting protections for transgender individuals, including those related to trans athletes competing in women’s sports.

This move comes on the heels of Trump’s Sunday night declaration that he would prohibit transgender women from participating in women’s sports.

“We will get critical race theory and transgender insanity out of our schools and we will keep men out of women’s sports,” Trump stated during his Sunday rally.

The forthcoming executive orders will also assert that the federal government will recognize only two sexes—male and female. Additionally, the administration plans to discontinue recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility.

These actions are consistent with Trump’s earlier remarks. Following his victory in the 2024 election, he vowed to take decisive measures against transgender athletes.

“With the stroke of my pen on day one, we are going to stop the transgender lunacy,” Trump proclaimed during a speech last month. “And I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military, and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools — and we will keep men out of women’s sports.”

Unsurprisingly, the announcement has sparked widespread reactions on social media.

“What happened to the ‘he’s only going to stop trans children, adults can do what they want’ crowd?” one person posted on X.

“Disgusting,” another user commented.

“This is actually so sad,” one individual wrote.

“Disgusting, this man,” another added.

“But I thought Trump loves the LGBTQ?” someone asked rhetorically.

“Y’all voted for this man,” another person remarked.

While the legal standing of these executive orders remains in question, it’s clear that Trump intends to fulfill his campaign promises.
