Last week, Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce officially tied the knot with a high-profile wedding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. It was obviously a star-studded affair with a guest list filled with A-list celebrities, but there was one high-profile individual not in attendance: former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Taylor Swift famously endorsed Harris in the 2024 presidential election, but it does not seem like she made the cut for the wedding guest list, as the couple was reportedly worried about “optics.”

Taylor Swift Endorsed Kamala Harris

During the 2024 presidential election, Swift issued a strong political statement when she publicly endorsed Kamala Harris in the election over Donald Trump.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” Taylor Swift wrote in a post on Instagram back in 2024.

This quickly sparked outrage in Donald Trump, who ultimately won the election, as he took to his Truth Social platform and wrote “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” days after she endorsed Harris.

Harris Not Invited

Despite Swift’s public support for Harris, it sounds like the couple decided not to invite the former Vice President to their wedding.

According to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice newsletter, Taylor and Travis wanted to avoid any political attention at their wedding, with a source telling him that Taylor wanted the day to be “about her marriage” and didn’t want the focus to shift to “who was sitting next to a politician.”

“Once a former vice president walks into the room, the story isn’t the bride and groom anymore,” another source told Shuter, adding that the couple did not want the wedding to be remembered for “the political guest list,” but instead for the “vows, the music and the love.”

A source went on to tell Shuter that Swift’s guests included a “wide range of political views” and a “genuinely mixed crowd.” However, the couple did not want anyone in attendance to have to “debate politics or worry about optics.”
