Polls show Bernie Sanders is quite popular with young Americans, but a high school senior took her admiration for Sanders to the next level. Chloe Raynaud took him to prom.

Well, not literally. Sanders was probably too busy on the campaign trail to actually accompany her to the dance. But she did take the next best thing: A life-size cardboard cutout of the Vermont Senator.

You can grumble about the weirdness millennials do these days, but Raynaud’s eschewing of the traditional date system to make a political statement took some courage.

She spoke with Revelist about how she reached her decision.

“I hadn’t gotten asked yet and prom was approaching quickly, so I was thinking about who would make a good prom date,” she told Revelist. “I really identify with Bernie’s political standpoint so I just went for it!”

As the tweet above shows, Raynaud did not shy away from her unconventional date. However, she went beyond just taking pictures with Sanders. The cutout even made its way onto the dance floor.

“During the slow dance I brought him out to dance with him and everyone started laughing,” she told Revelist. “Then my friends made him crowd surf.”

Raynaud tweeted that she plans to bring Sanders to more than just prom. The cutout will also grace her college dorm room.

Sanders may not be able to win the democratic nomination, but he’s already won Raynaud’s heart.
