Do you enjoy the programming offered by AMC but wish you could opt out of the commercials? Comcast and AMC may have a solution tailor-made just for you, if you are willing to pay for it on top of your regular cable bill.

AMC and Comcast are working on a premium subscription service, AMC Premiere, that would launch a standalone network for $4.99 a month. The new network would air all original AMC programming at the same time they appear on the regular AMC network, allowing fans of shows like The Walking Dead to enjoy the same show at the same time but without the ads.

“With AMC’s engagement at an all-time high, developing more options for viewers to connect with our content is a priority,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, in a statement. “Tens of millions of existing viewers watch our shows through the cable ecosystem, so partnering with Comcast gives us a great opportunity to launch this new idea at scale. We’re excited to make AMC Premiere an available option for Xfinity TV customers, as we continue to build deeper relationships with fan communities across all of our programming and platforms.”

So… how does that work, exactly?

It appears some details still haven’t quite been hashed out just yet. Would viewers on the premium AMC network finish watching a show before those watching on the standard AMC network, thus posing the risk of spoiler alerts for those live tweeting the same show from two different feeds? That sounds like a bad idea. Or will the premium AMC have the same breaks but some other filler content in between the typical commercial breaks? If that’s the case, would there be bonus behind the scenes nuggets to digest or just a blank screen? Who wants to pay extra for a few minutes of dead air?

The overall concept is drawing comparisons to HBO Go, but HBO is already a network without commercial breaks to get in the way. This will be different and could be great or a disaster. We’ll just have to wait and see!

A soft-launch for the network will begin June 29 and will include other original content from the network.
