When you think of Bruce Springsteen the first thought that goes into your head is childhood wonder and amazement, right?

The unlikely pairing of Springsteen and the Harry Potter movie franchise could have been one of the strangest in a long time. During an interview with BBC 2, Springsteen let slip that he recorded a song for the movies that ended up not getting used.

The unused song was titled “I’ll Stand By You Always,” which was described by Springsteen as “a big ballad that was very uncharacteristic.” Considering the song isn’t about the blue collar nature of his upbringing or the state of New Jersey, that’s certainly true.

That whimper you heard from across the nation was from the sliver of sportswriters that both love Springsteen and Harry Potter. This must have been a fan fiction that one of them wrote and it somehow came to life. How much better would Goblet of Fire been if Springsteen was playing on stage and Hermoine ran up like Courtney Cox in the Dancing in the Dark video? That wouldn’t have taken away from the movie one bit.

Since the movie didn’t use the song, it is still for sale and Springsteen believes it should be used in a children’s movie. It is time to start taking bets on whether the tune will appear in a Pixar or Dreamworks picture. Safe money is on Dreamworks, feel like Spielberg will jump on this.
