Cash Cab

Discovery Channel is bringing back one of its biggest hits, Cash Cab. The surprise trivia game show held inside a taxi cab roaming the streets of New York is returning after a five-year absence from production and it will have as few new wrinkles to add to spice things up.

Former host and Cash Cab driver and host Ben Bailey, unfortunately, will not be back behind the steering wheel to surprise the unknowing game show contestants. Instead, the new Cash Cab will enlist a cast of comedians and other stars from the world of TV and cinema to serve as game master, but a standard host has not been named at this time. The new show will be executive produced by David Steinberg, who has worked on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, and Mad About You, among others.

If you somehow didn’t watch Cash Cab and are still wondering exactly what it is, it is a game in which passengers in a taxi are given a chance to earn money by answering random trivia questions correctly on the way to their destination. The longer you have to travel, the more money you can win. The drawback is if you get three questions wrong on your journey, then you are kicked out of the cab to the curb with nothing to show for it, and you still have to get to your destination. You do get some lifelines, like phoning a friend and shouting out to the sidewalk for help from a stranger.

Here’s an example;

The return of Cash Cab continues a recent trend ongoing with bringing game shows back from the dead. Who knows just how long Cash Cab‘s revival will last, but it will be good to have the best cab in the city back giving out cash.
