Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones fans may be about to get a deeper look into the expanding literal universe authored by George R.R. Martin. The author has another story coming out from the A Song of Ice and Fire world this year, but that story is *not* the long-awaited sixth novel in the series, The Winds of Winter.

The anthology series entitled “Book of Swords” will include 15 “original tales celebrating fantasy’s golden age of sword and sorcery”. One of the stories is written by Martin and will be set in the A Song of Ice and Fire world, though the characters involved and the timeframe of the story are still unknown.

The book is scheduled for a release on October 10 of this year, and preorders are already being accepted on Amazon. The series will include content written by a number of sci-fi and fantasy authors, including K J Parker, Scott Lynch, Robin Hobb, Ken Liu, Daniel Abraham, and more. The addition of Abraham brings in an author with some experience with Game of Thrones, as he worked on a graphic novel adaptation of Martin’s Game of Thrones.

How this new anthology will fit in to the sequence of events currently going on in the labyrinthine A Song of Ice and Fire storylines remains unknown. Will it tie directly to the events of the established series or merely make slight references to the original series? This could essentially be like what Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was to the Star Wars franchise. Hey, that worked out well for Star Wars. Maybe it will have a similar impact with the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
