George R.R. Martin is an extremely talented, passionate and meticulous author. There are a ton of other adjectives you could use to describe his writing and abilities as a writer, but you’d never describe his work as quick or rapid.

Game of Thrones fans are still waiting for Martin to release the next written installment of the series while the HBO show has caught up and moved past all of Martin’s published works. As fans clamor for Martin to speed things up, the author is busy stating his jealousy for how fast Stephen King is able to write.

Via Bustle.com:

George asked him “How the fuck do you write so fast? I have a good six months and crank out 3 chapters, meanwhile you wrote 3 books in that time!”

Stephen answered that he writes almost every day and demands 6 pages a day from him self. [sic] George was amazed by that.

He replied “You always get six pages? You never get constipated? You never get up and go get the mail, and think ‘Maybe I don’t have any talent and should have been a plumber?'”

Video hasn’t been released of King and Martin speaking, but there was one photo posted to King’s Facebook page.

Comparing the two authors in terms of speed isn’t totally fair as they have very different writing styles and are covering two very different topics. King’s books – for the most part – are self-contained while Martin is trying to draw connections across different books and with a much larger cast of characters.

Still, Game of Thrones fans would love to see Martin work at a quicker pace as long as the quality remains intact.
