For those pining for a second season of HBO’s limited drama series The Night Of, you might be getting your wish.

The Night Of, based off BBC’s Criminal Justice, told the story of down-on-his-luck defense attorney John Stone (John Turturro) and a college student accused of murdering a girl. The somewhat realistic drama shows all sides of the criminal justice system, with a notable focus on eczema. The series was critically lauded.

HBO president Casey Bloys told Variety, series creators Steve Zaillian and Richard Price are discussing ideas for a potential “new case,” involving Turturro.

“The only issue with doing another season is for them to come up with an idea that excites them. Steve [Zaillian] and Richard [Price] are talking and sharing ideas. I think it’ll be a longer process, probably. Both of them take their time and will only do something they’re really passionate and excited about. They’re not going to do another season just to do another season.”

“My guess is, it would be [one case in a season]. I think they’re talking about a lot of different variations, so at this point, all I know is that they’re talking about it. They haven’t come to us with anything. They’re just trying to get themselves excited about a take.”

It’s fantastic to hear Bloys admit the process of creating a second season would take some time, as we’ve all felt the disappointment from True Detective Season 2 – which was massively disappointing after being rushed into productionThe Night Of lends itself well to explore future cases under Stone or become an anthology series ala True Detective.

If Zaillian, Price, and Turturro are involved and given the necessary time to create a quality season like The Night Of’s first, the potential news is more than welcome.
