Even those who don’t watch HBO’s Game of Thrones have gathered that no character is ever considered safe from death. Knowing that, we feel obliged to warn fans there is still time for your favorite character to be killed off because HBO has announced it will renew Game of Thrones for another season.

HBO also picked up Veep and Silicon Valley in addition to Game of Thrones. The renewals for all three is not at all unexpected, given the good track record each has established on the premium channel. It is unknown how many more episodes of Game of Thrones will come with the renewal, but Veep and Silicon Valley will each add 10 additional episodes to the programming in 2017.

There has been speculation about how Game of Thrones will come down to the finish line as a series. As previously discussed, the idea of splitting 13 final episodes between two final seasons has been one idea floated out there. The hopes for many Game of Thrones fans will likely be this renewal leads to a few more episodes before the show wraps the story up.

The timing also comes just as HBO is getting ready for the season premieres of all three shows for its stacked Sunday night lineup. HBO having these shows back for another season will also be a nice little selling point as it continues to expand its streaming service, HBO Now. The network just worked out a new deal to bring HBO Now to Xbox One users as well, as networks and video game leaders continue to look for ways to make video game consoles more a part of your entertainment center.
