It takes a lot to postpone elections in major democratic countries—usually a natural disaster or completely unforeseen circumstances.

In Israel, it takes something stronger: Britney Spears.

The Israeli Labor Party has postponed its primary on July 3 because Britney Spears will be in Tel Aviv for a concert that same day. According to Haaretz, Spears will take so many of the city’s resources (and voters) that the party felt it had to postpone.

“The problem is more a technical one than concerns about a mass defection to the outdoor concert on July 3 by the pop star: both events were scheduled for the same day in north Tel Aviv (Hayarkon Park for Spears; the adjacent Convention Center for Labor).

“One problem Labor would face is hiring enough stewards and security guards for its primary vote, as many would be otherwise employed securing the concert, a senior party source explained.”

Tel Aviv is a major city, but apparently it doesn’t have enough security guards to staff both a Britney Spears concert and voting booths.

There’s no word yet on when the primary vote will be rescheduled, but here’s a list of concerts in Israel for the party to take into consideration.
