After Westworld received good reviews and had the most-watched first season in HBO history, it’s no surprise that HBO quickly decided to go back to J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot Productions for another drama.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions will bring a new hour-long drama titled “Glare” to HBO. The Hollywood Reporter says that Glare is about the colonization of another planet.

Abrams, who rebooted both Star Trek and Star Wars successfully, can’t do any wrong in the eyes of Hollywood and its fans. After successfully traversing sci-fi over multiple mediums, he is a pretty safe bet for HBO. Javier Gullón will write the script and executive produce the show along with Abrams. Gullon is known for writing the script to Enemy, a critically acclaimed movie that Denis Villeneuve directed.

The optics and topic surrounding the drama sound great and could be compelling if they hit the right notes. The question becomes, will this have some of Abrams’ touch on it or will this be another show that he is just attached to in name? Lost was very much his show, whereas shows like Westworld, Person of Interest, and 11.22.63 have seen him take a back seat from completely being the showrunner. So, it will be interesting to see the role Abrams takes on with Glare.
