Jim Carrey’s late ex-girlfriend’s estranged husband filed a civil lawsuit Monday against Carrey, alleging that he had illegally supplied Cathorina White with prescription drugs. It also alleges that Carrey monitored and controlled her, and after she committed suicide, tried to cover it up.

White overdosed on a mix of oxycodone, oxymorphone, propranolol, and zolpidem last September, where her death was ruled a suicide. She had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Carrey for three years, and had broken up a week before her death.

The complaint was brought on by Mark Burton, who says he was still married to White. The two had been separated and working on a divorce. Burton accuses Carrey of illegally obtaining prescription drugs and giving them to White. He also alleges that Carrey attempted to cover himself up after learning of her death.

From the lawsuit filing, as obtained by Mashable:

After White committed suicide, and in an effort to cover-up his conduct and complicity in her death, CARREY sent a bogus text message on September 27, 2015 to White (who was already deceased) pretending as though he had misplaced the Drugs and insinuating White may have taken them … without his knowledge.

The complaint also accuses Carrey of going out of his way to “publicize his supposed generosity” for paying for the funeral despite allegedly not paying “a dime” of funeral expenses. Burton is seeking furneral and burial expenses, along with monetary damages for “all past and future damages”, “for all exemplary and punitive damages” among others.

Burton is a boom and camera operator, as pointed out by his IMDB profile, and is best known for his work on The Online Gamer.
