It’s the era of reboots, and next up is the Knight Rider franchise. Last year, director Justin Lin attempted to reboot the series, but it never got off the ground. Now the Weinstein Company wants to give a Knight Rider film reboot a shot, and they’re eying John Cena and Kevin Hart as possible stars.

From Screenrant:

For the role of Knight, the studio is hoping to get WWE star John Cena, while omnipresent comedian Kevin Hart is seen as a possibility for the voice of KITT. It’s important to note that neither has been officially cast, and the Weinstein Company is simply interested in getting them onboard. If nothing else, this gives fans an idea of the tone the studio is looking for, combining Cena’s tough-guy action hero with Hart’s sense of humor.

Cena has steadily built a Hollywood career with roles in Trainwreck and the upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, among other films. But landing the lead role in Knight Rider, played by David Hasselhoff in the original TV series from 1982 to 1986, could launch his film career to a new level.

Hasselhoff recently said he wants to make a dark, Logan-inspired Knight Rider film. If the Weinstein Company lands a duo like Cena and Hart, it’s obvious the movie will take on a much more comedic tone than Hasselhoff had hoped.
