Keanu Reeves has made a career of playing super serious characters in movies like The Matrix and John Wick, but the Canadian actor showed off his funny bone during an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

Reeves appeared in the “Kid Stand-Up” sketch with Fallon and director Judd Apatow. The trio performed jokes submitted by elementary school students to The Tonight Show. As you might expect, the punchlines were tame, but there is something amazing about Reeves giving his all to tell a joke about why a pterodactyl can’t go to the bathroom. (Because its P is silent.)

The 52-year-old might not have a future in stand-up comedy, but Reeves’ career revival is one of the better stories to come out of Hollywood in recent years. By all indications, Reeves is a great dude and a pleasure to watch in action movies. John Wick was a complete surprise. Whether or not John Wick: Chapter 2 shares the same success, it’s great to see Reeves back on the map — even if he’s telling kids jokes with Jimmy Fallon.

John Wick: Chapter 2 opens in theaters next Friday, Feb. 10. We’ll have to see if Reeves brings the same comedic wit and timing to his shoot-em-up sequel.
