MTV Classic

In a rebranding effort with one of its properties, MTV is hoping to cash in on some nostalgia by bringing back America’s most controversial animated TV friends and more. Beavis & Butt-Head are coming back to TV airwaves on the brand new MTV Classic starting August 1. And they’re bringing some of your favorites from MTV’s video library with them.

Starting August 1, MTV will rename VH1 Classic as MTV Classic. In typical MTV fashion, music videos will be scarce. The focus instead will be many of the programming hits from the decade of the 90s, which was heavy on shows like Beavis & Butt-Head.

While FOX had The Simpsons and Comedy Central had South Park, MTV had Beavis & Butt-Head, which later led to King of the Hill on FOX. Controversial in nature to some, Beavis & Butt-Head became the voice of the nation for many. Literally. Anyone who was in middle or high school in the 1990s likely heard a good number of Beavis & Butt-Head impressions in the cafeteria or in home room, right? It was a hit for MTV, and it was part of a strong foundation for original content on the network.

These two rockers will not come alone, of course. MTV is also bringing back Daria and Aeon Flux. In addition, MTV will reair episodes of everyone’s favorite automobile customization show, Pimp My Ride. Want to tour the homes of celebrities? MTV will hook you up with episodes of Cribs. Who would not want to see either of these two shows updated for today? It’s been long enough. We can use an updated version of each.

MTV is also bringing back Jackass and Punk’d and Laguna Beach. There will apparently be a little something for everyone and anyone who watched MTV’s programming in the 1990s, and that is fantastic.

There is one notable program that seems to be missing from the lineup, unfortunately, and I hope I am just missing it or it will be announced later. We need to bring back Celebrity Deathmatch.
