Nike shoes

More than 30 years after debuting in Back to the Future Part II, the Nike Mags have helped raise a lot of money for a good cause.

Earlier this month, Nike announced it was raffling off pairs of limited edition 2016 Nike Mags with automatic power-lacing, a real life version of the shoes worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future Part II. With 86 pairs of shoes available, $10 tickets were sold for a chance to win the iconic shoes, in the name of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The raffle was a wild success, raising $6.75 million.

“Thanks to Nike, we’ve raised a boatload of money for research and we’ve had a ton of fun doing it,” actor Michael J. Fox told ESPN.com.

Nike CEO Mark Parker said he couldn’t believe the success of the raffle.

“We could have never imagined when we started this journey 30 years ago it would had such a wide-ranging effect — and can’t wait for what’s next,” Nike chairman and CEO Mark Parker said in a statement.

For those lucky people who won the raffle, they’re going to get some pretty sick kicks, all for a good cause. For those who didn’t win, know the donation towards Parkinson’s Disease research is a great gesture towards helping those struggling with the illness. Shoes or not, nobody is a loser in this scenario.

Kudos to Fox and Nike for coming up with such an ingenious way to raise money for a noble cause.
