Han Solo may get to shoot first again. The original cuts of Star Wars could return to shelves this year for the original film’s 40th anniversary.

From a Making Star Wars report:

I generally have it as a policy that we don’t run those rumors because they are generally wrong. However, over the last month the evidence and tips have been piling up that the unaltered original trilogy will be re-released this year for the 40th anniversary in various formats. Several sources have let us know it was coming and it appears to actually be on the way this time.

I will be pretty surprised if this rumor doesn’t pan out. But remember, it is a rumor.

Disney has been cashing in on every opportunity to earn cash since purchasing Lucasfilm, so this is a rumor that makes sense. Many fans feel that George Lucas’ constant edits after their release severely impaired the original films, and they would likely flock for an opportunity to watch the original cuts that does not include sketchy streaming websites.

While some of Lucas’ special edition changes enhanced the films, most annoyed and angered fans, or were just totally unnecessary. He even put Gungans in the Return of the Jedi celebration.
