Rick and Morty Szechuan sauce

Fans of certain television shows are dedicated. Whether it’s naming their kids after Game of Thrones characters or devoting their lives to a website based on The Office, some fans go to great lengths to prove how big of fans they are.

Let’s meet the 20-year-old Rick and Morty super fan who recently bought a packet of dipping sauce from McDonalds for nearly $15,000.

Well, $14,700 to be precise.

The Mulan Szechuan sauce was recently listed on eBay and was originally a promotional product for the 1998 Disney movie Mulan. That same packet of sauce from 1998 was then purchased for $14,700 by the Rick and Morty fan. Which begs the question for those of us who don’t watch Rick and Morty:

Why was sauce for Mulan bought for so much by a Rick and Morty fan?

Well, in the recent third season premiere of Rick and Morty, the main character Rick refers to the sauce as his “series arc.” As a result, fans began to petition to McDonalds to bring back the sauce, seeing as a live action Mulan is slated to be released in 2018.

One thing led to another, and someone who watches the show found the sauce in his car and decided to sell it to see how much he could get.

“I just bought a really old car, while cleaning it I found a packet of this sauce.,” the listing states. “After watching the recent episode of Rick and Morty I went online to see if it was worth anything. Turns out it was. Also this comes with a packet of wasabi as well.”

Now I need to go buy a bunch of late-90s used cars and see how many old sauce packets I can find.

Just to be clear, this nearly 20-year-old package of McDonald’s dipping sauce from 1998 sold for nearly $15,000. It’s sauce. It’s almost 20-years old.

People are crazy.
