This Memorial Day, Netflix will release season five of their political thriller House of Cards. The gritty, somewhat realistic look at the inner-workings of seedy Washington politics with President Frank Underwood is back and may somehow be an even darker show than it already is.

If you have seen House of Cards, you know the show is already dark. It’s especially dark when people are thrown onto oncoming trains or be killed by carbon monoxide poisoning or shooting the President, even if he is someone as vile as Frank Underwood. But season five gives a view that it could go even more.

While it doesn’t reveal much about the storyline, it does show that Frank and his wife, Claire Underwood are running for President and Vice President and the election is coming down to the wire. The Underwood’s lead New York Governor Will Conway 255-245 with just Ohio and Pennsylvania left to determine who is President. Assuming both states are close and Conway wins one of those states, it’ll come down to the wire.

Surely, the storyline involving Tom Hammerschmidt’s investigation into Frank’s corruption will continue and maybe even come to head given it will be Election Day at some point in the season.

All in all, the season will focus on the Underwood’s and their hopes in coming to power. The trailer ends with Frank saying “Underwood 2016. 2020. 2024. 2028. 2032. 2036. One nation, Underwood.” Surely, it’s setting up the start of the “rule of Underwood” for the foreseeable future.
